The Shattering Shimmer
Heavy clouds, laden, longing,
Tense and silent bells. 
Myths and monsters thronging  
At the gated citadel. 

Summer eyes youthful, idle 
Pull on phantom fragments. 
A worldly life that stumbles 
Along imaginary battlements. 

Days of sky, soft spirals
Blue dreams, wispy reason. 
Grey clouds, constraint, denial
A brooding heart plots treason.

Clouds crack, wet throes. 
Passion weight of water. 
Throwing ghosts and heroes 
From their heavened shelter. 

Wet pins strike my skin 
Pinch, sting and tingle.
Pricking pores, sinking in, 
Blood within me rumbles. 

I ache for my escapist home. 
I run, I hide, then falter 
Underneath the stinging dome, 
Passion's burning waters.
