The Green Man's Autumnal Twin
From the Sovereigns of the Seasons collection
The Gold Man
Slow September crawls the land,
Leaves lose green, dry, thin.
Glass hours throwing sand
Grains clinging to the rim.
Learned leaves, the year grows old.
Sun tests, wind trials earn colour,
Forest carer given gold
Wisdom medals, gentle valour.
Haunting winds, leaves crack
Signals psyche, a rattling sigh.
Ancient cycle, turning click,
Gnarled sentinel standing high.
Thicket quiet, breathing slows.
Odd angle of the dimming sun.
Beard sparkles, halo glows,
Doyen of the forest. Gone.
Gold Man in ruling robes
Ushering his folk to rest.
Dreamers seek, project, absorb,
Seeing still in lives that test.
