Subterranean Shore
An excerpt from my illuminated poetry book Hypnos Hermes
I wait upon the subterranean shore,
Stroking nerves that spark, tremor.
Riots of glitter, twinkling quartz
Soft blushes on the lake’s mirror.
I breathe, I hold, I swallow
Silence, hot, thick, and fragrant.
Fingers snake within my chest
To excite, soothe, and intoxicate.
Fingers point and hands beckon
From stalactites and shadows,
Shapes that call and challenge
My head bows, but I press forwards.
Tunnels taunt, counts collapse
But feet find what minds miss.
Paths loop, mock and break,
Each step skims the abyss.
Rocks curve and spiral,
The earth’s ancient bones
Present a gentle form,
Smoothing all apprehension.
One, two, fifty turns, and stop!
Wood, metal halt my journey under.
A door demands my touch,
Swings open, no sound, no shudder.
Hypnos Hermes is an illustrated epic poem that will take you to a world of brave knights, terrible monsters, and enigmatic witches.
