Solstice Promises
From a book I’m working on entitled “Sovereigns of the Seasons”
Sun hides for many moons, Lethargic laps, sets, rises. Chilled cries and soft moans Wait for solstice promises. Sun’s light dim and cools, Fruit and flower fall, recede Surrendered gladly to the soil Nurturing the waiting seed. Seeds plot their future paths, Warming moment, distant, soon. Shell splits, sends twin labyrinths Climbing branches, digging roots. Seed's orb opens in dark clay. Star ignites in the endless void. Curves, angles, shaped geometry. Dancing flames, spiralling wood. Wooded walls guard the seedling, Linked limbs, defend, challenge. Leaf shields shed for bedding, Their sacrifice to the next age. Wood remembers and rejoices Collecting every solar turn. Elders nurture new voices, Praising the returning sun.
