Dandelion Lyre
The last seeds blow away from the Dandelions - will they make it to welcoming pastures? From the Sovereigns of the Seasons collection
Dandelion Lyre
Past March yellowing,
White mane maturity.
Roots’ grand reckoning
Of ice dream imagery,
Stem strained, heavy head
Droops on long ton lyrics.
Poems pull itching threads
Feather flails, seedling sticks.
Breeze releases broken anchor.
White naivety, spent parent,
Flying seeds, flowing ichor
Longing for a clay carpet.
Wind tongues grip, lift,
Curl, rasp and whisper.
Seed songs cast adrift
On the uncaring ether.
One falls, fails, withers,
On catwalks’ barren fashions.
Campbell’s monomyth cutters
Strip daring dandelions.
One beds in jagged grasses,
Digging down to stretch its stalk.
Tradition thrives, convention collapses
Among the songs of wilder folk.
